About
The Compass Chronicle
It all began with one question. “Would I regret not doing this?”
The answer was a resounding yes.
You may be wondering what “This” is?
This is my Great Adventure, at least that is what I have decided to call it—a solo backpacking adventure through the world with no timetable, no destination, no limits.
I will be resigning from my current place of employment and putting my career on hold.
Over the past months, I have been preparing for this adventure: saving money, deciding what I will take with me, what to get rid of, and creating this blog.
I’m not going about this completely haphazardly, as you may be thinking. Let me explain in more detail and tell you a little about myself!
Who Am I
I am a manifestation of the entire Universe.
Deep right? Let’s not get so existential just yet.
The name I was given at birth is Tyler. I am a tech professional and currently work for a Fortune 500 company that leads the world in engineering feats. I’m a son, a brother, a friend, a writer, an adventurer, a dreamer, and I try my best to be a decent human being.
I am passionate about spirituality. I’m not fond of labels, but I like the concept of an Omnist—One who finds truth in all religions. Different rivers that all lead to the same source. I gravitate strongly towards Buddhism and Hinduism, and have also studied Christianity and Taoism. I hope to learn more about Islam, and am open to all other spiritual paths.
Health and wellness are critical components in my life. I prefer cooking most of the food I eat, which may prove to be challenging along my adventure. I will make it work, I love to cook!
Weight training and yoga are my preferred choices of exercise, except when I get an itch to run a marathon.
Travel so far
I’ve been fortunate to travel widely so far in life—from the jungles of Guatemala and the pyramids of Egypt to the walls of Constantinople in Istanbul, the Vatican, the sunlit beaches of the south of France, and the towering façade of Westminster Abbey.
Participated Kirtans in Tulum, and listened to Mozart at the Vienna State Opera. Rode camels in Morocco and explored the fairytale castles of Portugal. Walked the halls of the unused palace in Budapest.
Strategically planning my holidays and paid time off I have been able to see a lot of the world.
But it has left me wanting more.
I have met people along my travels with inspiring stories. A German girl who gave up her career to move to Tulum and pursue a career as a spiritual healer. The Brazilian law student who moved to Lisbon right before graduating, with no clear goal, became a tour guide and has never left. A girl I met at a hostel in Morocco who had been backpacking through Africa for the past three months. And countless other stories that have led to my desire to leap into the unknown.
Into the world.
You will find imperfect travel itineraries, personal travel stories, articles about my experiences at destinations, epic adventures, travel tips and suggestions, photos from my travels, and a heart full of compassion.
That’s it for now, but there’s quite a bit more to me than that.
More will be revealed, so come along on my Great Adventure!
Once it begins (February 2026), I may decide to start posting my journal entries or send them out via newsletter, so sign up for my mailing list and never miss a blog post!
Who knows what else may show up in your mailbox.
Thank you for visiting my blog and learning a little about me, at least as much as words allow.
Feel free to reach out with questions, requests, and suggestions!
